The Hail Spike
- If a storm contains a precip shaft that contains hail, sometime "three-body" scattering can occur.
1) Radiation is scattered from hail to the ground
2) Radiation is scattered from ground back to the hail
3) Radiation is scattered from the hail back to the radar.
- So, end up with false echo out the back edge of the storm along the beam direction.
- the false echo is called the hail spike
