Evolution of the
boundary layer - 6AM
Let's look at how the
boundary layer evolves when larger-scale weather
phenomena such as highs and lows are not creating large
changes in the weather on a given day.....
6AM:
radiation
inversion in place - the region from the surface
to the top of the radiation inversion is called
the nocturnal
boundary layer
no thermal
turbulence
little/no
mechanical turbulence since winds near surface
are calm
winds are calm
near surface, increase in strength once you get
above the radiation inversion
